San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo topped the race for the Best Player of the Conference award while Meralco’s Allen Durham was the expected leader in the Best Import derby after the elimination round of the PBA Governors’ Cup came to a conclusion over the weekend.
Fajardo compiled 37.900 Statistical Points in 10 games of the elims to emerge as the early leader in the Best Player race even as Durham showed why he won the Best Import of last season’s Governors’ Cup after posting 61.364 SPs.
History beckons for Fajardo should he hoist the award later in the conference. He is currently tied with San Miguel great and mentor Danny Ildefonso for the most number of the Best Player awards with five.
That may also cement Fajardo’s quest to win a fourth straight Most Valuable Player which would tie him with Ramon Fernandez and Alvin Patrimonio for most all-time. The 6-foot-10 gentle giant claimed the Best Player plum in the Philippine Cup.
