The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) welcomed the return of Highway Patrol Group (HPG) members on Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) to augment the undermanned traffic personnel directing vehicular traffic flow on thoroughfare’s ‘choke points’ this holiday season.
“We need all the help we can get to cushion the expected rise in vehicular volume this Christmas season,” MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said.
A total of 20 HPG personnel were deployed on EDSA –- from P. Tuazon to Connecticut/White Plains in Quezon City while 40 were positioned in other identified chokepoints.
HPG’s return on EDSA was agreed by Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT) headed by Tim Orbos. Member agencies agreed that actions should be taken to ease traffic congestion on Edsa’s ‘choke points.’ These are: Balintawak, Cubao, Ortigas, Shaw Boulevard, Guadalupe and Taft Avenue.
“We have to make sure traffic is moving on EDSA,” said Orbos, MMDA General Manager and concurrent DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure.
