THREE empowered young ladies were crowned at the inaugural Miss Philippine Islands beauty pageant held at the Tanghalang Pasigueño in Pasig City early Monday morning.
The winners were Sammy Anne Legaspi, Ilocos Sur, Miss Philippine Islands 2017; Joymayanne Barcoma, Tarlac, Miss World Bikini International Philippines; and Sarah Young, Northern Samar, Miss Glory of Universe Philippines.
They will later represent the Philippines in various pageants abroad – Legaspi in Miss Lumiere International in Singapore; Barcoma, Miss World Bikini Model International in India; and Young, Miss Glory of Universe, also in India.
First runner-up honors went to Liz Mabao, Catbalogan Samar; Alyssa Marie Sta. Anna, 2nd runner-up; Vheem Daphne Lopez, Miss Philippine Islands Heritage; and Jenny Kim Agasid, Lipa City, Miss Teen Glory of Universe.
Winners of special awards were Miss Taguig City, Friendship; Miss Malolos, Bulacan, Photogenic; Miss Nueva Ecija, People’s Choice; Miss Ilocos Sur, Ms Skin House and Ms FatOut; Miss Northern Samar, Ms Vita-E; Miss Nueva Ecija, R2Buds Nails’ Spa; Miss Parañaque, Ms Hashtag Creations; Miss Abra, Ms Crosswinds Ocean Hotel; and Miss Dasmariñas City, Miss Crosswinds Travel.
Other candidates who finished in the Top 16 were delegates from Palawan, General Tinio; Nueva Ecija, Sta. Rosa, Laguna; Quezon province; Abra, Dasmariñas City, Laguna, Batangas City, Marinduque, and Manila.
“Our main objective is to gather all these young, vibrant and intelligent women from across the nation and eventually represent the archipelago in international stage,” said Eric M. Arevalo, president of Miss Philippine Islands pageant.
Ernesto O. Santander, Vice President of the Miss Philippine Islands contest, said: “The pageant is an opportunity for young ladies to further their education, skills, and become leaders within their community.”
Twenty-seven candidates competed in the Miss Philippine Islands 2017 pageant. Among the members of the board of judges were General Oscar Albayalde, chief, National Capital Regional Police Office; Rep. Ricky Sandoval of Malabon; Tourism Undersecretary Atty. Mark Tolentino; Francia Conrado, FAMAS President, etc.
