Scoring champion Terrence Romeo of GlobalPort finally showed up in Tuesday’s Gilas training, unmindful of the trade rumors circulating around.
Romeo, the No. 5 pick four years ago, was joined by June Mar Fajardo, Jayson Castro and Calvin Abueva who have been regularly attending the closed door training at the Meralco gym in Ortigas.
The face of the Batang Pier the past three years, Romeo is coming off promotional tour in the Middle East.
But after the Gilas practice, Romeo wisely evaded reporters waiting for clear answer whether he will stay with GlobalPort or not.
Romeo has reportedly asked GlobalPort management to be shipped to teams with championship pedigree.
But GlobalPort won’t allow him to be traded unless it can get blue chip players.
In a published report, Meralco is said to be willing to get Romeo but not at the expense of the team’s two rising players in Baser Amer and Chris Newsome.
Newsome has been coach Norman Black’s fair-haired boy even during their Ateneo days.
A GlobalPort source, however, said Romeo’s case remains hazy, saying: “Medyo mahirap makakuha ng kapalit nya.”
Another source said talks about Romeo’s request for a trade might be resumed during the league’s annual planning session in Los Angeles.
“Baka duon pag-usapan ulit,” he said.
