A 67-year-old barangay peace officer was shot dead Saturday while standing in front of a condominium building shortly before his meeting over land ownership in Quezon City. Investigators of the Quezon City Police District identified the man as Manolo Taroy, a resident of Barangay Batasan Hills in Quezon City.
According to Taroy’s son, his father informed him Saturday morning that he was going to meet with Barangay Batasan Hills chairman Jojo Abad at a restaurant on Commonwealth Avenue to talk about the ongoing construction of an annex of their barangay hall. The security guard of Columbia Garden Residences, where Taroy was waiting, said that the victim was shot at around 12:30 p.m.
Witnesses said that one of the two men wearing face masks and jackets onboard a black motorcycle stopped in front of Taroy and shot him in the head at close range. (Alexandria San Juan)
