Senator Grace Poe said she hopes that the Senate would pass early next year the proposed emergency powers for the President to address the country’s transportation and congestion crisis.
Poe, chair of the Senate Committee on public services, said the Upper Chamber would resume deliberations on the Senate Bill 1284 or the proposed Traffic and Congestion Crisis Act which is pending approval on second reading.
“Although not certified urgent, we have been conducting non-stop interpellations on the emergency powers measure.
Once the Senate concludes the period of amendments on the budget bill, then I shall resume interpellations on the emergency powers,” she said in a statement.
She added that it is “nearing the end of the period of interpellations.”
Poe earlier asked the Palace to certify as urgent the proposed law to expedite the implementation of projects aimed at overhauling key transport systems, particularly the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3), to ease the traffic.
