Joseph Yeo erupted for 51 points as Mighty Sports-Prudential Guarantee outsteadied Freego-Archipelago, 100-91, to rule the Division A of the recent Xavier Alumni Basketball League held at the Jacinto Tiu Court of Xavier School in San Juan City.
A mainstay of Meralco team in the PBA, Yeo buried seven triples as Mighty Sports-Prudential completed an unprecedented three-peat in the longest running basketball alumni league in the country.
He finished with an impressive 13-of-19 shooting from the field, including a perfect 9-of-9 in first quarter where the Mighty Sports-Prudential, managed by Caesar Wongchuking and Fritz Dy and mentored by Mike Fermin, started to pull away.
Yeo’s wondrous shooting earned for himself another MVP plum.
The title win was Mighty Sports-Prudential’s 10th – also a record in the annual tournament.
Yeo was ably backed by long-time backcourt buddy and former Rain or Shine guard Ty Tang, Ginebra draftee Jett Manuel and Marvin Sioco.
Tang scattered 20 points while Manuel and Sioco combined for 30 points.
Freego tried to turn the game around but Yeo and Tang came through with big plays in the crunch that helped repel Freego’s comeback bid.
Former UST star Paolo Pe led Freego with 29 points while Raphael Banal chipped in 22.
