A family of four on their way home were crushed to death after a truck loaded with sugar cane toppled and crushed their vehicle in Negros Occidental.
Police Supt. Gilbert Gorero, the Spokesman of the Police Regional Office (PRO-6), initialy identified three of the victims as Runolo Espinosa of La Carlota City, his wife Josephine Espinosa, the Espinosa’s daughter Christine Sarsia and Christine’s four-year-old son Vincent John.
Gorero said that base on initial reports he received, the accident happened at Park Malipayun, Brgy. Atipuluan, Bago City, Negros Occidental at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
It was learned that a 10 wheeler truck driven by Herman Mohametano of Sitio Pili, Brgy. Lag-asan, Bago City, was travelling to Bacolod City, when it fell down on a Hyundai Eon Sedan driven by Espinosa.
As a result, Espinosa and his three passengers were pinned inside their vehicle. They were brought to Bago City hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.
The driver of truck was apprehended and in the custodial facility of Bago City Police Station in Negros Occidental.
Witnesses said the truck was traversing a curve when it stopped as the driver apparently felt that his vehicle was starting to sway.
Unfortunately, the truck eventually fell over at a spot where the victims’ vehicle was located.
It took about thirty minutes to retrieve the victims who all were declared dead on arrival at the Bago City Hospital.
