A wider Barkadahan Bridge in Taytay, Rizal has been opened by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The 245-lineal meter bridge became wider by one lane on both sides, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said.
It is expected to provide motorists using the Laguna Lake Highway or C-6 Road an alternative route to the congested EDSA and C-5 Road.
Villar added that the widening of Barkadahan Bridge complements the improvement of the Laguna Lake Highway which has become an alternative route of motorists specifically those going to the eastern part of Rizal, Marikina City, Quezon City, and the western part of Metro Manila, including South Luzon Expressway and Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.
“The additional one lane each in both the east and west direction can be used by motorists going to Taytay, Rizal area and South Luzon Expressway via Bicutan. Travel time from Barkadahan Bridge to Bicutan-SLEX will be shortened from one hour to only 30 minutes,” Villar said.
DPWH pushed for the completion of the bridge widening project this year after addressing right-of-way issues.
