DON’T BE CORRUPT: ‘Huwag kang kukurakot.’
That was the one and only piece of advice ex-seminarian turned film director Maryo de los Reyes warned his long-time ward, Yul Servo when the latter signified his intention to run for public office years ago.
Maryo said he was initially hesitant to give his blessings to Yul, who eventually won as councillor of Manila. He was to serve three terms as councilor until he was elected congressman in 2016.
‘I told him that when the time came that he would be tempted to corrupt, he could always go back to showbiz. May pera ka sa showbiz.’

Yul hosted the Christmas dinner and party for the entertainment media recently on behalf of Production 56, the talent management agency owned and operated by Maryo. Yul is among the pioneer talents of the famed director.
Maryo fondly recalled that when he first saw Yul, he was amused by his ever smiling face. But he found him so thin.
‘He reminded me of a mouse,’ he laughed.
Yul has transformed himself through the years into a serious, award-winning actor. Flashed on screen at Anabels where the party was held was a summary of his projects as congressman, mostly improvement or building of schools, hospitals and clinics in Manila.
Production 56 is home to singers and actors as Ruru Madrid, Miggs Cuaderno, Neil Ryan Sese, Nash Aguas, Orlando Sol, Masculados, Leandro Baldemor, etc.
