The Senate will investigate the controversies hounding the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office starting Wednesday next week, particularly the Small Town Lottery, which was tagged as a front for illegal gambling.
Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Games and Amusements, clarified that the inquiry will be in aid of legislation and will focus on the amendment of the PCSO’s 53-year-old charter to improve its collections from STL.
Lacson said among those invited to attend the hearing is former “jueteng” (an illegal numbers game) whistleblower and newly-appointed PCSO board member Sandra Cam, who recently bared that STL operations are still being used by gambling syndicates to conceal the illegal numbers game.
