University of Perpetual Help demolished Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-14, 25-19, 25-11, and stayed unscathed in the NCAA men’s volleyball tournament yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
Eager to eclipse their runner-up finish last season despite the departure of five veterans, the Altas still showed their aggressiveness on all departments to snare their fourth straight victory.
With the win, they tied idle the Arellano Chiefs for the lead.
Outside hitter Rey Taneo filled in the void left by his older brother Relan, who already graduated, by leading Perpetual with 12 points highlighted by five blocks, while Joebert Almodiel fired eight kills to finish with 11 points.
Perpetual’s veteran coach Sammy Acaylar said he only made little adjustments despite losing most of his prized wards and was more focused on improving his players’ mental attitude.
“Psychological talaga ang importante,” said Acaylar.
The Altas needed only 59 minutes in dispatching the Generals as they banked on their combination attacks, as well as their rock-solid net defense anchored on Taneo and Ronniel Rosales to win convincingly.
