A little over two weeks before his US debut, Jerwin Ancajas has applied the brakes on his high-octane training in Magallanes, Cavite.
“We are starting to slow it down,” said Ancajas, who risks his International Boxing Federation super-flyweight title against Israel Gonzalez of Mexico on Feb. 3 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In fact, the focus is now on Ancajas’ weight as his handlers want him to be around 120 lbs by the time they fly to Los Angeles on Jan. 26.
The division limit is 115 lbs and Ancajas currently weighs 125 lbs.
Meantime, Donnie Nietes will defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight crown against mandatory challenger Juan Carlos Reveco of Argentina on Feb. 24 at the Forum in Los Angeles.
Nietes’ first defense of the IBF 112-lb title will be part of a major promotion that will also feature Brian Viloria, who will be gunning for the vacant World Boxing Association fly diadem.
