Streaking Ateneo tries to hit two birds with one stone today when it takes on defending champion Far Eastern University-Diliman in the resumption of the UAAP juniors basketball action at The Arena in San Juan City.
Game time is at 9 a.m. with the Blue Eaglets out to stretch their flawless start to 10 matches and clinch the first ticket to the Final Four round against a dangerous Baby Tamaraws side looking to boost their own playoff push.
Although they will come in as the odds-on favorites following a 59-47 win over FEU in the first round last Nov. 26, Ateneo coach Joe Silva refused to be swayed, wary that a possible ambush could in the offing.
“FEU is a dangerous team. They are playing at a high level so we can’t take them lightly,” he told Tempo-Bulletin in an SMS message. “We’re expecting a tough game against them so we need to the right things and let winning take care of itself.”
Powerhouse National University and University of Santo Tomas, considered by many as the top threats to Ateneo’s title bid, square off in what promises to be a blockbuster showdown at 11 a.m.
The Bullpups, sitting comfortably at second spot with a 7-2 mark, are eager to repeat an 89-85 victory back in the first round over the Tiger Cubs who are raring to get back on track after suffering a 91-87 upset loss to UP Integrated School over the weekend.
