Tanduay Alab Pilipinas looks to continue its impressive run this month when it faces struggling CLS Knights tonight in the ASEAN Basketball League at the GOR CLS Kertajaya in Surabaya, Indonesia.
Having won three of its four games in January – the latest was a 114-87 rout of Thailand’s Mono Vampire last weekend in Bangkok – Alab is confident it won’t waste the previous opportunity of keeping its best form in the 8 p.m. Manila time match with the Indonesian side.
A win would enable Alab, which enters the game carrying an even 4-4 record, to tighten its grip on the sixth spot in the team standings. The top six after the eliminations qualify for the playoffs.
Coach Jimmy Alapag witnessed perhaps the best performance from Alab this season after 14 threes and 32 assists led to a surprising blowout of Mono Vampire.
And it would bode well for Alab if imports Justin Brownlee and Renaldo Balkman and locals Ray Parks Jr. and Josh Urbiztondo bring their strong plays from the last game to Surabaya where it faces an CLS squad struggling with a 1-6 record.
But CLS has a solid core led by Indonesian national team veteran Mario Wuysang, longtime ABL reinforcement Brian Williams, Thai-American Freddie Goldstein and former University of the East standouts Biboy Enguio, a Filipino-Indonesian, and Rudy Lingganay.
