The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will file malversation charges against Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF) secretary general Raymund Lee after the PSC Task Force discovered “criminal infractions” in his liquidation report following the national team’s training stint in Europe last year.
“The PSC will file cases based on our investigation and the NBI recommendation,” said PSC Executive Director Sannah Frivaldo, referring to the NBI’s own investigation on the matter.
“The PSC found inconsistencies with the liquidation report…the travel was not in accordance with approved itinerary,” she said, noting that the PSC only approved the team’s trip to Germany.
The PSC has learned that the team also went to Holland and Belgium.
Members of the national team later asked the PSC’s help after they alleged that Lee didn’t handed them their full allowances during the three-week long European training camp.
Each athlete was supposed to get $1,800 and Lee admitted not giving the full amount as they all agreed that some of the money will be used for other purposes.
In some instances, as many as six athletes were bunched together in one room and there were no evidences provided by Lee that they stayed in hotels specified in their itinerary.
Another discovery was the $2,800 transportation (van) approved by the PSC that will ferry the athletes from the airport to hotel; hotel to training venue; and hotel to tournament and seminars was not used for this purpose.
Instead of taking the van, the athletes narrated to the PSC that there was no such thing and they were made to walk going to train stations and walked almost the same amount of time to reach the training venue.
