Malacañang welcomed Vice President Leni Robredo’s willingness to work with President Duterte again but said that there is no offer for her to take on another Cabinet position at the moment.
The Vice President has said that she is not closing her doors to work again with the President in case he offers her another Cabinet post.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said he is not sure if Duterte is even considering giving another Cabinet post to Robredo who was a former Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council chairperson.
“Hindi ko po alam na kinukunsidera siya ng Presidente para sa kahit anong Cabinet position,” Roque said. “So to the Vice President, we appreciate her readiness, unfortunately, parang wala naman pong offer ngayon,” he added.
Robredo resigned from her Cabinet post last December 2016 after she received a text message from Cabinet Secretary Jun Evasco telling her to cease from attending Cabinet meetings.
Robredo served as HUDCC chair for five months, the same position held by her predecessors Vice Presidents Jejomar Binay and Noli de Castro.
Eight months after her resignation, Robredo’s name was again floated after the Commission on Appointment’s decision to reject the confirmation of then Social Welfare and Development Secretary Judy Taguiwalo.
However, Malacanang said that it would have been difficult to appoint Robredo to the Department of Social Welfare and Development as the Vice President resigned from her previous post.
Robredo said she would like to be a part of the Duterte Cabinet again but she emphasized her right to dissent on national issues that may surface.
