Far Eastern University tries to extend its winning streak even as Ateneo seeks to bounce back from a loss when they clash today in UAAP women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.
Match is at 4 p.m. with the Lady Tamaraws gunning for their fifth consecutive triumph after ending the first-round eliminations tied second with reigning titlist La Salle at 5-2.
Defense is expected to play a key role in FEU’s campaign as it currently leads the Receiving department, but coach George Pascua also hopes his players will do more offensively.
Bernadeth Pons, running forth in the Best Scorer department, spearheads the Lady Tams, while leading best blocker Celine Domingo will anchor the team’s vaunted defense.
FEU also hopes to duplicate its 19-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 15-9 win in the first round.
But Ateneo is out for revenge as it also hopes to regain its bearings from a recent four-set defeat to archrival La Salle that put them at solo fourth with 4-3.
Jho Maraguinot banners the Lady Eagles’ offense along with Jules Samonte and Kat Tolentino, while Bea De Leon will take charge of their defense.
In the other match, University of the East hopes to follow up its morale-boosting five-set win over fancied Adamson when it takes on University of Santo Tomas at 2 p.m.
Ending their 13-game losing streak including six consecutive matches at the start of this season, the Lady Warriors are determined to get out of the cellar with their 1-6 mark.
UST, meanwhile, aims to end its three-game skid that put them at 2-5 near the cellar.
