Ceres-Negros scored two goals late to beat Myanmar’s Shan United, 2-0, Tuesday night and wrest the solo lead in Group F of the AFC Cup at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.
Patrick Reichelt and Bienvenido Maranon found the back of the net in a span of four minutes to help the Busmen sneak out a maximum three points at home and gain their second win in three matches in Asia’s second-tier club competition.
Reichelt capitalized on a poor clearance by the Shan United defense to break the ice in the 79th before Maranon doubled the lead four minutes later on a through ball by midfielder Mike Ott.
The reigning Philippines Football League champion climbed to the top of the group with seven points, three off Singapore’s Home United.
Home United suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to Cambodia’s Boeungket Angkor also Tuesday in Phnom Penh.
