A new fleet of luxury cars will be destroyed by authorities at the Cagayan freeport next week as part of President Duterte’s crackdown on smuggling.
The President has disclosed plans to visit Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) to witness the destruction of the cars, among other luxury vehicles that entered the country illegally.
“Dito sa CEZA puro bago. ‘Yung hinahanap ninyong Aston Martin, nandiyan ‘yan. Next week puntahan ko ‘yan,” the President said during the 145th anniversary celebration of Tarlac last Wednesday.
“Magbili rin ako ng bagong bulldozer dito. Sagasaan ko lahat ‘yan,” he added.
The President has authorized the destruction of the luxury vehicles instead of placing them for auction as warning to smugglers.
Only last month, dozens of smuggled luxury cars were crushed and destroyed at the Customs port in Manila, Cebu and Davao upon the orders of the President.
Duterte said smugglers deliberately leave the cars at the ports and wait for a few months until the Bureau of Customs (BoC) sells them through auction.
“Tapos kunin nila, mura na…At least may benchmark pero mura na. Paglabas niyan may papers (pa),” he added.
