OROQUIETA, Misamis Occidental – Cagayan de Oro City showcased its depth by clinching five boxing gold medals in the Batang Pinoy Mindanao Regionals held over the weekend at the outdoor ring in front of Misamis Occidental provincial capitol building.
The scrappy Cagayan de Oro fighters emerged triumphant in 5-of-9 finals they saw action.
Angelou Franco began the Cagayan de Oro juggernaut with a lopsided 5-0 decision win over Zamboanga City’s Marlon Luna in the school boys light-paperweight (40-kilogram) division.
Other winners from Cagayan de Oro were Ailene Kaye Caranagan (junior girls flyweight, 50kg.), Eljay Pamisa (boys light-paperweight, 40kg), Rhein John Ridor (boys light pinweight, 44kg) and Joshua John Obvina (junior boys light bantamweight, 52kg).
General Santos City, hometown of fighting lawmaker Manny Pacquiao, collected a trio of golds from Rederick Bautista, Gabriel dela Pena, and Nelson Marc Ciudad.
