President Duterte is asking Filipinos to be forgiving and humble.
In his Easter Sunday message, Duterte enjoined Filipinos to glorify Jesus Christ for His sacrifices so that people can live with renewed hope towards eternal salvation.
“Today we are called to thank the Lord for giving us His only Son to save the world from sin,” Duterte said.
“As we remember Christ’s triumph against death, may we nurture humility and forgiveness in our hearts as these will free us from the shackles of hatred and greed. For it is only by being selfless that we can truly say we are worthy of God’s love,” he added.
Duterte also urged the public to help the less fortunate and pray for the safety and peace.
“Let us make this occasion more meaningful by offering aid to others, especially to those is need,” he said.
“Let us pray for the welfare and safety of our countrymen and for lasting peace in our nation so that we can all work together in harmony towards real change,” he added.
Last year, Duterte said he was hoping that Filipinos can find inspiration, reminder, and guide, while celebrating the fulfillment of Resurrection. He said that the story of the Risen Christ is a message of perseverance and faith in the grief of Black Saturday.
“Christ’s resurrection should inspire us to achieve our collective aspirations through our unwavering devotion,” he said in his first Easter Sunday message as President.
Duterte also hoped that Filipinos would be reminded that the country is also in need of salvation from the issues that long plagued it and that people will overcome all of society’s problems.
“May this occasion be a reminder to Filipinos that our country deserves salvation from drugs, criminality and corruption that have long plagued this nation and that our people will rise and triumph over society’s ills,” he said. (Argyll Geducos)
