President Duterte on Thursday called on his political allies not to be blinded by power and instead continue to serve the public well.
The President issued the call during a birth anniversary dinner attended by allies in Congress in a hotel in Pasay City.
“He told his audience not to be blinded by the positions they hold and continue to uphold the welfare of the people to ensure that younger generation of Filipinos would get brighter future,” Malacañang said in a press statement.
Among those who attended the event, dubbed “Salu-Salo Kasama ang Pangulo,” were former President now Pampanga Rep. Gloria M. Arroyo, House Speaker Pantaleon D. Alvarez, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, and several congressmen and businessmen. The birth anniversary dinner for Duterte, who turned 73 last March 28, was organized by Marinduque Rep. Lord Alan Velasco.
The President was elated by the support extended by his allies in the campaign against illegal drugs and corruption. He promised to sustain efforts to improve the plight of Filipinos, assuring that his government would “not disappoint” the people.
“It is inspiring to see in this occasion in continuing show of support for the administration’s fight against the proliferation of illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption,” he said.
“Rest assured that the government will not disappoint the Filipino people because they entrusted their faith and confidence in us. It is therefore imperative that we realize our aspirations to providing a more comfortable and productive life for everybody,” he added.
The President appeared to be in a good mood during the party, as he sang “Ikaw” alongside singer Martin Nievara.
Other performers during the President’s celebration were Zsa Zsa Padilla, Jed Madela, and Lani Misalucha.
