Incoming Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director Oscar Albayalde vowed to institute strict disciplinary measures as his own version of weeding out scalawag policemen in the police service.
Albayalde revealed his plans to implement his discipline-oriented training programs for both the incoming and current members of the police force.
“We will focus on disciplining our force. Discipline is really important and there are a lot of ways to do that, including the training programs for them,” Albayalde said.
The official said he would talk anew to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año to discuss the expansion of various training programs that would seek to improve the discipline and professionalism of the 185,000-strong police force.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has supervision over the PNP, as well as the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and Bureau of Fire Protection.
“I already talked with him and he is very supportive on my suggestions to expand the training because this is a form of disciplining our police,” said Ano.
“This is part of our internal discipline and of course internal cleansing is very important. We will go on extensively with our internal discipline and internal cleansing program,” he added.
No less than President Duterte praised Albayalde for being strict, what with the sacking of policemen whom he would caught sleeping while on duty.
It was recalled that Duterte has repeatedly expressed his intention to get rid of the scalawag policemen in the PNP.
Albayalde vowed to do similar measures to ensure that every policeman is worth the big salary increase that was implemented in January this year.
He said he will not hesitate to sack more policemen whom he would find out to be involved in various illegal activities.
Albayalde is set to take over the PNP helm on April 18.
