Two motorcycle-riding gunmen were shot dead by police in a hot pursuit moments after they killed a butcher Monday evening in Cainta, Rizal.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, regional director of Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO-4A) said the suspects were identified by their relatives and partners as Oscar Caisip, legal age; and Rovie Daduya, 26, a seaman, of Barangay Manggahan, Commonwealth, Quezon City.
Prior to being killed, police said the suspects earlier gunned down a butcher identified as George Domantay.
A report from the Rizal Provincial Police Office (PPO) said the suspects waited for Domantay along Ortigas Avenue Extension Junction in Barangay Santo Domingo, Cainta, Rizal around 8:45 p.m. and riddled him with bullets.
The place of incident was near a Police Assistance Desk (PAD), giving Cainta policemen a chance to immediately.
Shots however were fired towards the responding policemen, leading to a brief chase where police eventually cornered and neutralized the suspects during the shootout.
Meanwhile, Domantay was brought to the nearby Tacano Hospital but was later declared dead on arrival, police added.
According to Eleazar, a colleague of Domantay identified as Mentong Mendoza was brought to the local police station.
He said that cops retrieved a cellphone from one of the suspects’ possession which revealed that it was Mendoza who was last person contacted by the suspects before killing Domantay.
The conversation of the suspects and Mendoza include the details of Domantay’s work schedule at a nearby slaughterhouse.
The suspects, based on the retrieved messages, apparently agreed to carry out the sinister plan by accepting P30,000 and two kilos of pork meat.
Eleazar meantime said Mendoza is treated as a person-of-interest but the latter claimed he was threatened by the suspects to give him details about Domantay’s life. (Martin A. Sadongdong)
