Chief Justice-on leave Maria Lourdes P. A. Sereno reiterated yesterday she is not resigning her post and she “has no plan yet” to run for an elective post, particularly the Senate.
After attending the Women on Fire Forum at the Adamson University in Manila, Sereno told journalist that resignation is only for the “duwag.”
“We need to have millions of heroes, not only one,” she said.
The idea of resigning has been brushed aside by Sereno several times since an impeachment complaint was filed against her and even after the committee on justice of the House of Representatives found six articles of impeachment.
The latest call for Sereno to resign was aired last Monday by members of the Philippine Judges Association (PJA), the Supreme Court Employees Association (SCEA), and the Citizens’ Crime Watch (CCW).
Sereno said: “Wala katuturan yang resignation na yan. Yan ay para sa mga duwag.
On running for an elective post, Sereno said: “Wala pa ho akong mga planong ganon.”
The SC, as a full court, has set a special session on Friday to tackle, and possibly decide, the quo warranto case filed against her by Solicitor General Jose C. Calida in behalf of the government.
The case sought her disqualification and eventually her ouster as head of the judiciary.
The six articles of impeachment have yet to be voted on by all the members of the House of Representatives and at least one-third vote of the membership would elevate them to the Senate for trial.
