President Duterte on Tuesday said that he has fired another government official for corruption.
However, Duterte declined to identify the person as he just doesn’t want to publicize it.
“Marami akong napaalis sa corruption. Mayroon bago. It has nothing to do at all with any other reason. I just don’t want to make publicity out of it,” Duterte said during the oath-taking of new military officers in Malacañang.
Duterte admitted most of the people he has fired were among those who encouraged him to run for President in the 2016 elections.
“Ang masakit nito, most of those I have dismissed actually were the very same people that urged me to run in the first place. Sila ‘yung pabalik-balik ng Davao, sila ‘yung udyok nang udyok,” he said.
The President renewed his resolve to fight corruption in government, one of his campaign promises, as he reminded public officials anew to serve with integrity.
He also insisted that he was not beholden to anyone, and assured he would not interfere in government transactions, including military appointments.
