Vice President Leni G. Robredo yesterday urged Filipinos to defend the judicial system following the Supreme Court’s decision to oust Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P.A. Sereno.
The Vice President denounced the highest court’s decision in removing Sereno through quo warranto as it “undermines the Constitution” which states that the Chief Justice are among the officials that may removed from office only through impeachment.
“Ang desisyon ng Kataas-taasang Hukuman na paboran ang quo warranto petition ay tahasang pagyurak sa pinaka-sagradong institusyon ng ating bayan: Ang ating Saligang Batas. Lubos tayong nababahala sa desisyong ito,” Leni said in a press briefing in her office in Quezon City.
The Vice President said that her call was not only for Sereno but for the SC which she said was “threatened” by the Chief Justice’s removal.
