The Philippine National Police (PNP) is eyeing three possible angles behind the assassination attempt on Daanbantayan Mayor Vicente Loot who has finally broken his silence on the matter.
Director General Oscar Albayalde, PNP chief said, it was Loot himself, through the local police investigators, who mentioned these.
“He has not given a formal statement but they (investigators) were able to initially discuss with him and he was mentioning three angles. First is personal grudge, second is politics, and third is his being included in the narcopolitics list,” said Albayalde.
The PNP chief said Loot also expounded on the possibility it was perpetrated by “bounty-hunters” hired ostensibly by “a policeman who is in active service.”
“We are still conducting investigation to determine where this policeman is assigned,” said Albayalde.
However, Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, PNP spokesman, was quick to point out the police has nothing to do with the attempt.
“The PNP is not capable of doing this especially to a fellow police officer like him,” said Bulalacao in a press briefing at Camp Crame.
The allegation that policemen are behind extra-judicial killings, targeting in particular drug personalities, is not new.
Loot is among four police generals named by Duterte as involved in illegal drugs trade. The three others are Edgardo Tinio, Joel Pagdilao, and Marcelo Garbo.
