Senate, Judiciary and Philippine National Police (PNP) scored contrasting wins and kept their share of the lead in the 2nd UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off held over the weekend at the Pasig City Sports Center.
Relying heavily on the red-hot shooting of Sen. Joel Villanueva, the Senate Sentinels clobbered the GSIS Furies, 90-57, for their second straight win in as many games.
In his finest game so far, the former UST player exploded for a season-high 34 points aside from anchoring the team’s rock-solid defense that held the Furies to just 10 points in the opening quarter.
Warren Tan ably backed his up with 17 points while five other Senate players contributed four points or more.
The PNP Responders, on the other hand, came through with a huge fourth quarter onslaught to hack out an 83-58 win over the Ombudsman Graftbusters and draw level with the Sentinels in the event presented by UNTV President and CEO Daniel Razon.
Protecting a slim 55-48 lead, the Responders poured on the heat at the start of the payoff period to pull away for good.
Not to be outdone, the Judiciary Magis outlasted the defending champions AFP Cavaliers, 67-66, to stay unbeaten in the event offering R1 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.
