BAGUIO CITY – Four persons were injured in two separate highway accidents involving three trucks and a motorcycle in Tuba, Benguet last Thursday, police reported.
Chief Insp. James Acod, Tuba police chief, said in a phone interview that the first accident happened at 4:18 p.m. in Sitio Camp 5, Barangay Camp 4, Kennon Road.
Acod said a motorcycle with three persons on board encroached on the lane and rammed into an Isuzu Elf truck driven by Johnny Ngale Togatog, 37, of Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet.
The police officer identified the injured as Francis Tibab, 21, and Jun Tiway, 22, both from Lipay, San Gabriel, La Union, and Liwan Dindo, 19, of Amontoc, San Gabriel, La Union.
Acod said the accident happened in a descending, semi-blind curve portion of the road, which prevented the driver of the truck from avoiding the motorcycle.
The victims sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.
Acod said as of 7 p.m. Thursday, they are still under observation and undergoing laboratory tests.
Togatog was taken to the Tuba police station for the filing of appropriate charges.
More than 30 minutes later at around 4:55 p.m., another vehicular accident happened on Marcos Highway in Bontiwey, Poblacion, Tuba, involving an Isuzu truck, registered to SSI Storage Solutions driven by Manny Gapay Auditor, 36, of Quezon City, and a 10-wheel truck registered to Axle Freight Services driven by Jines Dabajo, 26, of San Fernando City, La Union.
Investigation showed that Dabajo was descending fast on the slippery road and lost control of his truck and rammed the SSI truck which was parked on the road shoulder.
Dabajo sustained a minor injury on his left knee.
