Education stakeholders from various sectors are expected to gather as the Department of Education leads the national kickoff of the “Brigada Eskwela” at the New Society National High School in General Santos City today.
“Every year, we work to ensure that schools nationwide are ready and safe for our learners before classes open, and every year, we witness the spirit of volunteerism in motion as Filipinos from all walks of life make quality basic education all the more possible for our learners through Brigada Eskwela,” said Education Secretary Leonor Briones.
“This year, once more, we call on everyone’s selfless participation,” Briones added.
Briones, along with other DepEd officials, will lead the national kickoff of the 2018 Brigada Eskwela with the theme “Pagkakaisa para sa Handa, Ligtas, at Matatag na Paaralan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan.”
As DepEd’s flagship program in partnership and social mobilization, the Brigada Eskwela – also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week – continues to record an increase in stakeholder support every year.
During the DepEd-National Capital Region Brigada kickoff at the Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science recently, Undersecretary for Legislative Affairs, External Partnerships, and School Sports Tonisito Umali said that the program has “significantly improved the learning conditions of the Filipino schoolchildren through the efforts of those who believe in education.”
“We all know that not everything we need in our schools are provided for in the General Appropriations Act,” Umali said. “But because of Brigada, our schools, classrooms, and facilities are a lot better,” he added.
