National University drew another double-double performance from Carl Tamayo and outlasted Adamson, 83-78, to rule the PCABL 11th Freego Cup Tuesday at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.
The 6-foot-7 Tamayo imposed his will inside the paint to finish with 20 points and 12 boards, including six offensively, as the Bullpups Bullpups recovered from a slow start to annex their second straight title since winning the Palaro gold in Vigan last month.
He finished with an impressive 7-of-11 shooting from field aside from posting three assists and a steal in just 20 minutes of play to win the MVP award in the event also backed by Choi Garden, CW Home Depot, Powerhouse, and Hapee Toothpaste.
Three other players scored in double figures with Gerry Abadiano adding 17 points while Terrence Fortea and Cyril Gonzales combining for 26 points.
With Tamayo at the helm, the Bullpups outscored the Baby Falcons, 18-13, in the second quarter to forge a 37-37 count at halftime before pouring on the heat in the next frame to pull away for good.
Tournament Director Horacio Lim awarded the championship trophy to the Bullpups.
Meantime, Malayan University clobbered reigning NCAA titlist La Salle Greenhills, 83-65, in their battle for third – thanks to another splendid showing from Clint Escamis and Mike Escamis.
