Cignal went to the dynamic tandem of Marck Espejo and Isay Marasigan as the HD Spikers blasted the Instituto Estetico Manila Phoenix Volley Masters, 25-20, 25-19, 25-16, yesterday in the men’s division of the 2018 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
Espejo and Marasigan, who led Ateneo to three titles from 2014 to 2017, waxed hot in almost all angles to finish with 25 kills for a combined 27 points.
It was Cignal’s third win in four outings to grab the solo lead, while pulling IEM down to a share of third place with PLDT – both toting 2-2 records.
Veteran Vince Mangulabnan also shone for Cignal with 25 of the team’s 35 excellent sets.
Cignal produced more kills (47-29), blocks (5-4) and service aces (3-1).
Only Greg Dolor scored in double figures for the Phoenix Volley Masters with 10 points, nine coming from hits, while the rest struggled including Mark Enciso and Bonjomar Castel.
