Senators assured yesterday that they will push their version of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law in the upcoming bicameral conference committee.
Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel F. Zubiri and Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon stood by the Senate-approved BBL as they expressed confidence that it will pass the test of constitutionality should its passage is challenged before the Supreme Court.
Voting 21-0, the Senate approved Senate Bill 1717 at past midnight Thursday, after the more than 30 hours of debates in the plenary.
Zubiri, chairperson of the Senate sub-committee on BBL and principal sponsor of the measure, said the Congress bicameral conference committee is set to convene from July 9 to 13 to thresh out the differing provisions in the BBL versions of the Senate and House of Representatives.
