Director-General Aaron Aquino of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has called for the re-imposition of the death penalty in the country for illegal drug offenses.
He issued the call after conceding the Herculean drug woes the country is currently facing.
Aquino admitted that he was unaware of the extent and magnitude of the country’s drug problems during his long tenure in the police service.
After being appointed by the president to head PDEA, Aquino stated that it was only then that he discovered the intricacies involved in the illegal drug transactions in the country.
The PDEA chief stressed that imposing the death penalty for illegal drug trade would discourage foreign narco-personalities from operating in the country.
Also, Aquino said several media personalities are included in the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s updated narco-list.
