CEBU CITY – Officials from the Malacañang Palace will inspect the Bantayan Island in northern Cebu next week. The officials from the office of Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. will assess the island’s need for development masterplan and to ensure environmental sustainability, said 4th District Provincial Board Member Horacio Franco.
Franco said he personally asked the Malacañang to look into the island’s solid waste program and water management.
“After the initial assessment they will send a team to do a deeper and micro assessment and for deeper study in Bantayan,” said Franco.
Bantayan Island is composed of three municipalities: Sante Fe, Bantayan and Madridejos. According to Franco, the assessment will include the evaluation of resorts as to how they are managing their waste and water facilities.
Franco said the inspection will help ensure that the island won’t experience the same fate suffered by Boracay Island.
