International Masters Haridas Pascua and Jan Emmanuel Garcia booked spots to the national team that will see action in the World Chess Olympiad to be held in August in Batumi, Goergia.
Pascua and Garcia finished tied for first with 8 points apiece with FIDE Master Mari Joseph Turqueza, but emerged with superior quotients to finish 1-2.
It will mark the first time that Pascua and Garcia will see action in the biennial event.
In the women’s side, FIDE Master Shania Mae Mendoza, WIM Catherine Secopito and WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego made it to the Olympiad-bound squad.
Mendoza topped the eliminations with 7 points with Mendoza and San Diego tallying 6.5 and 5.5 points, respectively.
The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) will meet tomorrow to complete the five-man teams.
