More than 200 people were rounded up during simultaneous anti-criminality operations in the northern part of Metro Manila from Saturday night to Sunday morning as part of President Duterte’s order to get rid of “tambays” or people loitering the streets.
Reports said that at least 204 violators of laws and city ordinances were apprehended in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela.
The operations came days after President Duterte ordered the Philippine National Police to get rid of tambays to lessen crime, especially at night.
Of the total apprehended violators, 136 came from Caloocan, 56 of whom were minors who violated curfew hours and the rest were arrested for drinking liquor and being shirtless in public places.
In Malabon, 31 people were brought to police station, including four alleged gamblers playing cara y cruz.
In Navotas, 12 violators were nabbed for being half-naked and drinking in public.
Meanwhile, 25 violators, including four people smoking in public place, were apprehended in Valnzuela.
Arrested violators were brought to respective barangays or police stations for proper disposition. (Kate Javier)
