The country will experience a monsoon break in the next few days as the southwest monsoon or “hanging habagat” has receded to the West Philippine Sea for now.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Samuel Duran said a break in the rains can be expected due to slight weakening of the habagat and the prevalence of the ridge or extension of high-pressure area, an anti-cyclone weather system.
The ridge of the HPA, characterized by clear skies and very light winds, is currently affecting Northern and Central Luzon.
Monsoon breaks usually last for several days.
With the temporary weakening of the habagat, Duran said warm and humid weather condition can be felt in the morning, but thunderstorms are most likely to occur in the afternoon or early evening. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
