National University put on another dominating show as it cruised to a 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 victory over College of St. Benilde yesterday in the men’s division of the 2018 Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Bulldogs asserted their might right from the start – thanks to the solid all-around performance of Madz Gampong.
NU’s win was its second in as many games.
Gampong paced the Sampaloc-based crew with 18 points built on 16 kills and two blocks while adding eight excellent digs.
Angelo Almendres and Bryan Bagunas also contributed with combined 15 points for the Bulldogs, who overpowered the Blazers, 40-29.
St. Benilde threatened late in the third set after tying the game at 18-all, but Bagunas and Almendres ignited a 7-4 run to finally take the fight out of the Blazers.
Apart from praising his starters, NU coach Dante Alinsunurin credited his second stringers for also stepping up after being given playing minutes.
“Their confidence improved in this game. I hope they will continue playing like this in our next games,” said Alinsunurin in Filipino.
The Blazers absorbed their first loss after winning over San Beda University in four sets last weekend.
