Tropical depression “Karding” slightly intensified while almost stationary off the Pacific Ocean yesterday morning.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Chris Perez said Karding is not expected to make landfall but will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat” that will bring monsoon rains over most parts of the country until the weekend.
As of noon yesterday, Kar-ding was estimated at 1,135 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 60 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 75 kph.
On the other hand, the low-pressure area west of the country has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It was estimated at 750 kms west of Northern Luzon around noon yesterday.
Perez said the LPA will also stir up the effect of southwest monsoon over the country.
The enhanced habagat will bring scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains over Northern and Central Luzon, especially over the western section. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
