The incredible triumphs and the glorious moments of all great Xavier School athletes will be forever immortalized in a coffee table book entitled “Golden: A Celebration of the Xavier Golden Stallions”.
A first in the country’s high school history, the 250-page book will highlight the rise of Xavier School athletes in various fronts, including the mighty run of its basketball team that features the Stallions’ celebrated trio of Chris Tiu, TY Tang and Joseph Yeo.
Also included are the endearing journeys of former badminton star Kennevic Asuncion, ex-Davis Cupper Roland So, cagers Jeric and Jeron Teng, and swimmer Axel Ngui.
“We have produced outstanding athletes in different fields but their accomplishments were not properly documented, so we are doing this project to honor and celebrate their excellence,” said Reginald Yu, president of the Alumni Association of Xavier School.
The coffee table book, he said, will be released in February in time of the Chinese New Year and the school’s golden anniversary.
The main proponent of the project is Mighty Sports Apparel and Accessories of Caesar Wongchuking.
“Xavier School is not only the home of successful businessmen, but also in sports. We are excited to show the history of our athletes,” said Caesar Angelo Wongchuking.
Other Xavier products who left indelible marks were, Ginebra’s Jett Manuel, and current Ateneo basketball stars Isaac Go and Tyler Tio.
“We are aimed at putting our athletes in getting to UAAP and NCAA colleges, not just for basketball, but for other sports as well,” said former AAXS president Art Dy.
“The objective is not only to come out with a coffee table book, but also serve as an inspiration for the youth in taking up sports,” he added.
