After a media circus, Jordan Clarkson has been finally given the green light to play for the Philippine national team at the 2018 Asian Games.
As the Cleveland Cavalier guard boards the plane heading to Indonesia, his dad, Mike Clarkson is happy to see that his son is finally going to wear the colors of the Philippines.
“I’m extremely proud Jordan remained persistent and determined in his goal of representing his Filipino heritage,” Mike Clarkson told Manila Bulletin Sports made possible by renowned player-agent Ms. Sheryl Reyes.
The plan to have Jordan Clarkson play for the Philippines dates back to the last Asian Games. However, attempts to do so failed due to circumstances.
Jordan will be joined by his dad, Mike Clarkson, en route to Indonesia with his agent Jeff Austin (same agent as Steph Curry), trainer and assistant to witness Jordan’s dream become a reality.
Above playing for the national team, it is also confirmed that Jordan Clarkson will be the flag bearer of the Philippines in the opening ceremony parade.
“The distinguished honor of being the flag bearer for the Philippines contingent is truly a blessing and something our family will always remember,” said the proud father.
As Jordan Clarkson lands in Indonesia, it will be all business for him and after all the effort to bring him over, Mike expects Jordan to play his heart out for his country.
“I expect Jordan to have fun and give his best to make his Filipino nation proud,” said Mike Clarkson.
“His excitement and infectious smile will be on full display. What beats playing for millions of loyal die-hard fans who love you dearly.”
Jordan Clarkson is set to arrive on Thursday and will miss out Gilas Pilipinas first game against Kazakhstan but will be available to suit up against China on August 21.
