OGIE AT 51 – In showbiz, OA usually means overacting. But in the case of Ogie Alcasid it’s Over- Achiever. For indeed Ogie is : singer, song writer, actor , good friend, businessman, family man… all rolled into one. Quite a feat at 51.
Hopefully by next year one of his dreams will be realized: a movie based on his songs. He and Mr. M (Johnny Manahan) of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic had discussed the project a number of times and by 2019 it’s all systems go. With Ogie himself playing the lead part.
Ogie said the story centers on a composer who’s “nalalaos,” and he’s by all means not one. But Ogie said that was the fear of all artists, including himself. He often asked if millennials could still appreciate his songs. Colleague Jun Lalin assured Ogie, “But of course.”
CONCERT – Ogie Alcasid met with members of the entertainment press at his Hungry Samurai Japanese fast r e s t a u r a n t along Morato QC to talk about his show “OA: Ogie Alcasid 3 0 t h Anniversary Concert” on Aug. 24 at the Araneta Coliseum.
A measure of his being a good friend is indicated on the guest list: Vice Ganda, Rey Valera, Michael V, Janno Gibbs, Yeng Constantino, Moira.
Ogie and wife Regine Velasquez and children Leila, Sarah, Nate, plus “Bansot Mee” are part of the anniversary concert, directed by Paolo Valenciano, with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Gerard Salonga.
His ex-wife Michelle van Eimeren flies all the way from Australia to watch the concert.
‘NO,NO,NO’ – Asked if he’s interested in running for an elective post next year, his answer was, as always, “No,no,no.” Ogie’s been asked to run for mayor and congressman and even senator. He comes from a prominent family in Taal, Batangas.
He said it was enough that for several years he was a member of the EDSA People Power Commission during the time of President Noynoy Aquino. That he’s one of the leaders of the OPM ( Organization of Pilipino Musicians) along with the likes of Jim Paredes, Mitch Valdez, Celeste Legaspi, among others.
So there you have OA – as in Over- Achiever.
