Typhoon “Jebi” slightly weakened yesterday as it approached the boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the State weather bureau said.
Jebi was estimated by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration at 1,420 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon before noon yesterday.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said Jebi was expected to enter the PAR between yesterday afternoon and last night. It will be locally called “Maymay” once inside the PAR.
Jebi slightly weakened as it traversed the Pacific Ocean with maximum sustained winds of 190 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 235 kph. It is moving north-northwest at 25 kph.
If it maintains its speed and direction, Jebi will be outside the PAR early this morning.
PAGASA does not expect a significant enhancement of the southwest monsoon or “habagat” but the typhoon’s trough or extension will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, and Visayas.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA advised the public to be on alert for possible flash floods and landslides due to severe thunderstorms.
