ONE Championship’s flyweight king Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio welcomed the arrival pound-for-pound great Demetrious Johnson to his home promotion.
After a rare contract swap that sent “Mighty Mouse” to ONE Championship and Ben Askren to the UFC, reigning 135-pound champion Eustaquio is looking forward to a potential clash with Johnson.
“[It would be] an honor to fight a legend,” Eustaquio told Manila Bulletin-Tempo Sports Online.
Eustaquio captured the flyweight title last June after securing a split decision win over Brazil’s Adriano Moraes in Macau.
Johnson’s promotional debut would likely be against Eustaquio in his first title defense.
Despite being perceived as the underdog, Eustaquio is unperturbed.
“A champion doesn’t get worried; he gets excited and challenged,” said the Team Lakay star.
But as far as Eustaquio is concerned, “the only way to defeat DJ is to knock him out.”
Johnson told reporters on a conference call Monday morning that he’s excited about the new chapter of his career.
