The Bulacan Kuyas snapped a two-game skid even as the Bataan Risers rolled to their 12th straight victory on Monday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup at the Angeles City Foundation gym in Pampanga.
The Kuyas, backed by Mighty Sports’ Caesar Angelo Wongchuking, squeaked past the Pampanga Lanterns, 67-65, for their eighth win against five losses while the Risers drubbed the Basilan Steel, 108-77.
Jorey Napoles paced with 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals while James Martinez and Stephen Siruma added 11 and 10 points as the Kuyas got back into the winning column following defeats against the Makati Super Crunch and the Risers.
The Risers, meanwhile, banked on a hot start to direct the tempo throughout and post their 12th win against a lone loss against the Marikina Shoemasters in their opening game.
Four players scored in double figures for the Risers with John Bryon Villarias erupting for 23 points and six rebounds. John Raymundo and Gary David chipped in 15 and 14 points while Vince Tolentino added 10 points.
The Lanterns and the Steel fell to 5-9 and 4-9 cards.
