The last time Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok and Alaska Milk clashed in a title series was during the 2010 Philippine Cup with the Purefoods franchise winning the title via a 4-0 sweep.
When the two teams start their best-of-seven showdown for the Governors’ Cup, only two players – one from each side – are left from the 2010 rosters, Sonny Thoss of Alaska and PJ Simon of Magnolia.
“I totally forgot about that,” said Thoss, now on his 14th PBA season during the press briefing for the Governors’ Cup Finals yesterday at Sambokojin Restaurant in Eastwood Libis, Quezon City.
“Those memories I already forgot. I just try to think forward for another opportunity to win a championship. I’m just excited to be here, excited to be in the finals,” added the 6-foot-7 Thoss.
Simon, on the other hand, was a key member of that 2010 Purefoods title squad under coach Ryan Gregorio with Marc Pingris and former teammates James Yap and Roger Yap.
Pingris is still part of Magnolia but is out of the lineup as he continues to recover from a right Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury, thus leaving Simon as the only remnant of that champion team.
