THE return of Filipino iconic superhero Darna on the big screen has been delayed yet again.
Apparently, lead star Liza Soberano needs to undergo a medical operation for an injured finger, causing a temporary cancellation in the shooting schedule of the much-awaited comeback of the movie.
This was confirmed by Liza’s onscreen partner and rumored boyfriend Enrique Gil in an article on PEP.
According to him, the actress got her injury while doing a stunt in the now-defunct teleserye “Bagani.”
“She needs to have a surgery so that she could do the stunts in the movie better. She can’t move her finger so she really need to that,” he said in Filipino.
Enrique added that apart from Liza’s surgery, the movie is also undergoing changes particularly with regards to the script.
Note that “Heneral Luna” director Jerrold Tarog replaced Erik Matti after he bowed out of the movie last October, citing “creative differences.”
In a PUSH.com article, Liza expressed her hopes to work with Erik in future projects. She also expressed appreciation with the director inviting her for dinner to formally say goodbye.
“I was really thankful because I don’t think a lot of people will do that. He messaged me just so that he could say goodbye properly to me and I really appreciate that he did that,” she said. “I am just really thankful that I had the chance to work with him and I still want to finish a project with him so hopefully in the future if our schedule permits and there is a really good script that he wants to be directing, I really wouldn’t mind doing another film (with him).”
“Darna” was first announced in 2015, with Angel Locsin in the titular role. The actress bid goodbye to the role she first played in 2005, after her doctor recommended her not to engage in extreme activities to avoid permanent damage to her spine. (REGS PARUNGAO)
